GILCHRIST COUNTY,Fla. - With temperatures on the rise and the lazy days of summer drawing nearer, Boater Safety Week couldn’t have come any sooner for residents in Gilchrist County.

Police are still investigating two armed robberies that occurred Friday afternoon near Royal Village, a popular student apartment complex in Gainesville on S.W. Sixth Street and Depot Avenue.

Saturday afternoon a couple thousand people of all ages gathered together for one sweet annual tradition, the Newberry Watermelon Festival.

Saturday morning around 700 people gathered at the Master Gardener's Plant Sale where an estimated 5,000 plants were sold.
