Mizell Monday
Last year, the University of Florida
played “women's lacrosse”
for the FIRST time…
THIS season, the Gators are
“a national power”…
14 and 1 record… ONLY loss
came in Game One
“AT” North Carolina---10-9 in overtime…
Last week, in their “splendid”
Hull Road stadium”---
before an overflow crowd---
the Gators rocked Northwestern---
No. 2 team in America…
Sunday--in Nashville--Florida
outlasted Vanderbilt 8-7 …
14th straight win…
Kitty Cullen is a spectacular
sophomore---like a majority
of Florida's players,
she is from
“lacrosse country”--
along the Atlantic Seaboard...
Kitty's hometown---Rockville, Maryland…
She LEADS the nation in scoring…
Other than Northwestern, what
does Gator coach Amanda O’Leary
see as the most prodigious wins?….
She reeled ‘em off---
“Georgetown…Syracuse…Ohio State…
Penn State… Johns Hopkins”…
It’s “almost beyond belief”---that
I would ask the coach of a
team "not yet TWO years old"---
"is there a SOLID chance for
Florida--ranked No. 4---
to outgun GIANTS like Maryland,
Duke, Stanford and
North Carolina--to win
a national championship?”…
O’Leary would NOT “go there”…
“We don’t really think
about the FUTURE,'' she said.
"or TALK about it...
"We’re so young---our focus is
THE NEXT GAME”…
NONETHELESS... I have
NEVER seen a SECOND-SEASON
MAJOR-college program with
the “accomplishments” of
Gator lacrosse… I’m Hubert Mizell,
and that’s what I think.
