Mizell Monday
Memorial Day…
a time “to remember”..
Generations of the “brave”
helped CREATE the
great lives we
Americans enjoy…
Among “the finest” were
superior athletes who
were WINNERS TOO on
“fields of battle”… like
Tom Landry, the old
Dallas Cowboys coach---
he flew World War II
bombers---surviving
a crash landing in Belgium…
Ted Williams---an
enormous Boston Red Sox
hero with his mighty bat---
he was a Marine fighter
pilot in WW-II
AND---Ted was “re-called” to
help “cleanse the skies”
over KOREA…
Times are so different now…
Noted athletes not so
likely to wear military
uniforms… It makes me
“even more impressed” by
Williams and Landry---
plus “hundreds more” who
were “double heroes”…
I’m “thankful for so much”
on this Memorial Day---
family…friends…
my life as a sports journalist…
For now--- it’s “Au Revoir”
---The Mizell Minute
will be gone a few weeks
of summer…
Recent months have
been terrific---ample
material for commentaries…
I want to thank YOU---
especially “scores of people”
who have approached me in
grocery stories…restaurants…
hospitals…churches…
or at the gym---saying
things about my commentaries…
People are “so generous” …
when summer gets
LONG and HOT---I will
“begin to twitch”---eager
to get RE-started…
I’ll be back in
mid-August…
THANKS for the privilege,,,
I’m Hubert Mizell, and that’s
what I think.
