HOLLYWOOD - Sherman Hemsley, the actor who made the character George Jefferson famous in "The Jeffersons" has died at his home in El Paso, Texas.
Hemsley, who was 74, became famous during his appearances on "All in the Family."
The spin-off, "The Jeffersons" was a monster hit.
He was also a professional singer.
ABC's 'Modern Family' is one of TV's top rated comedies, but its fourth season is in jeopardy with cast members looking for more money...even filing suit to void their contracts.
The move comes amid a salary standoff that has already delayed a table read for the season premiere.
It's been announced "Saturday Night Live" will produce two primetime election specials for the 2012 presidential election.
The specials will air on two Thursdays in September.
The 38th season of the comedy show will premiere on September 15.
In London, fans of Amy Winehouse gathered to mark a year since the singer's passing.
Flowers, notes and messages were laid outside her former home...as fans sang her songs.
The talented soul singer with the beehive hairdo died from alcohol poisoning at just 27 years old.
