Another service provided by the city of Hawthorne is about to come to an end. Recently the city lost its police department and city manager, now fire department can be added to the list.
Alachua County Fire Chief Will May tells us a number of resignations among Hawthorne's firefighters is making it difficult for the department to continue to operate.
Resignations include Chief Jesse Modeecan, who May says is expected to step down by the end of the month.
The Hawthorne City Commission is asking county leaders to provide fire service.
May say county firefighters will not move back in to the fire station in Hawthorne, but will establish a station in nearby Grove Park.
