Yesterday we brought you the story of Axogen, a nerve damage research company here in Gainesville that is based on science done at UF.
Now... we continue that "GatorMade" series, looking at another innovative business that has the University of Florida to thank for its success.
Prioria Robotics manufactures unmanned aerial vehicles-- or UAV's-- which are small, portable planes used for surveillance.
These planes can be hand-launched in a mattered of seconds... and can be folded up and stored in a 6-inch cylinder.
And to be so small, they pack a big punch... for soldiers, police and emergency responders.
The plane is called the Maveric... and it's considered a "smart" plane because of its vision-based navigation technology.
It's the first man-portable, man-operable micro air vehicle.
And the creators of it say they owe it's success to the university that helped to develop it.
"If you were going to start a UAV company anywhere in the world, Gainesville Florida is one of the best places to start at," Bryan da Frota, CEO of Prioria, said.
