Alachua County Jail officials say they had 82 inmates isolated Monday night (19 May).
It started Friday, when one inmate showed symptoms of the chicken pox, and two others showed milder symptoms.
Jail spokesman Eugene Morris says those inmates are receiving treatment.
Jail officials sent samples off to a lab, but the first one came back inconclusive.
So far, it only affects the male population in the jail. Officials say anyone planning to visit the jail should call ahead.
According to a jail spokesperson, inmates set for release will go home as scheduled.
