A wallet and a knife were found at the scene of a burglary Monday (June 15), and the discovery led to an arrest.

Employees at the Putnam County School Board bus garage reported a burglary to their office Monday morning (June 15). The burglary had occurred over the weekend, and a safe, laptop computer, desktop computer, two LCD monitors and hand tools were stolen, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office release.

Officers checked the wallet that was found for identification. It belonged to Palatka resident Daniel Gibbs, 35. Officers were familiar with the suspect and responded to his known address.

At his residence, officers located a safe that matched the description given by School Board employees. Officers also located a generator and hand tools suspected of being stolen from another local business on Friday, June 12.

This was confirmed with the business owner, and the items were collected, according to the release.

Gibbs was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of grand theft, two counts of criminal mischief, possession of cocaine and violation of probation. Officers noted that Gibbs was on probation for burglary and theft.

Gibbs was booked into Putnam County Jail without bond.
