Defending conference and national champion Florida had a league-high 16 players named to the coaches preseason All-Southeastern Conference football teams.
The Gators had eight first-team picks, led by quarterback Tim Tebow and linebacker Brandon Spikes. Last season, as a junior, Tebow led the Gators to a 13-1 record and their second bcs championship in three years -- while throwing for 30-touchdowns and over 2700-yards. He also ran for 12-touchdowns. Twin lineman Mike & Maurkice Pouncey are also on the league's first-team while lineman Carl Johnson and running back Jeff Demps make the second-team... and tight end aaron hernandez makes the third team. Meanwhile, Spikes is one of three Gators on the first-team all-SEC defense -- along with defensive end Carlos Dunlap and cornerback Joe Haden. Last season, Spikes led the Gators with 93-tackles to go along with four interceptions -- with the Gators ending up 4th nationally in scoring defense. Strong safety Ahmad Black made the league's second-team defense while free safety Major Wright, cornerback Janoris Jenkins and senior linebacker Ryan Stamper all made the league's third-team defense.
Also, senior Brandon James is the first-team kick returner -- the 2008 southeastern conference special teams player of the year, James ranks first in the gators record book for single-season and career punt return yards and is tied for the school record for career punt returns for touchdowns with four -- a total that's third best in the sec history. While punter Chaz Henry makes the first-team and kicker Jonathan Phillips makes the 2nd-team
