It's been a back and forth issue between Alachua County Commissioners and High Springs Commissioners, and there's still no long-term resolution.

Both parties agreed on another 30 day extension regarding fire services near the City of High Springs. It's the second extension they've had because they can't reach a long-term agreement.

Alachua County Commissioner Rodney Long says ones of the goals of tonight's meeting was to try to understand each other's perspectives, but some issues remain controversial. One such issue is whether the county pays the city 123 thousand per year for services or 133 thousand like the City of High Springs wants. Another issue regards how much and when the High Springs Fire Department should be compensated for responding to calls outside city limits.

The new extension will run through November. County officials say they'll review the city's proposal and come up with their own written response in hopes of working out an agreement.
