The Food and Drug Administration has approved a ban on the sale of raw oysters during the warm months of the year, unless they are treated with radiation.

The ban is scheduled to go into effect in the spring of 2011. The bacteria that can be found in raw oysters has been known to kill people with immune deficiency disorders.

Even though North Central Florida fishing towns like Cedar Key will be hurt the most, everyone is likely to feel the impact.

Ten percent of the country's oysters are harvested in Florida. There is a proposal in Congress to block the ban.
