Senator Bill Nelson, D-Fla., wants children's hospitals throughout the state to treat critically-injured children from Haiti.
Nelson says he hopes to introduce a Haitian relief bill.
The U.S. military shares the same sentiment. General Douglas Fraser, the commander of the U.S. southern command, said he now has 4,200 people either on the island, or working to support relief efforts there. And, more help is coming.
"The United States continues to provide great support to the citizens of Haiti," Fraser said. "If you need medical support, if you need food, if you need water, there are non governmental organizations in the community."
The U.S.S. Carl Vinson arrived Friday with 19 helicopters, 51 hospital beds and three operating rooms. The U.S.S. Higgins is also off Haiti's coast, and the U.S.N.S. Comfort, a floating hospital, is expected to leave for Haiti Saturday.
