Levy County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a small plane crash in Williston.
The pilot, Phillip Seay Sr., 65, and his son, Phillip Seay Jr, 40, who both live in Williston, took off from Williston Airport on Sunday morning in a 1974 experimental plane, according to Captain Evan Sullivan.
But, while flying back to the Williston airport, the plane experienced an unknown engine malfunction, investigators said.
Seay Sr. attempted to make an emergency landing in an open field at 16930 NE 10th Street in Williston. But, when the plane touched down, Sullivan said the front of the plane took a nose dive and landed upside down.
Seay Sr. and Seay Jr. were transported to Shands Hospital in stable condition, Sullivan said.
The Federal Aviation Administration is also investigating the crash.
