Gainesville Police arrested two people, who were involved with a credit card scam and believe there could be more victims out there.
Police say Exavious Lee, 23, and Raquel Matos, 39, both from Miami, went into Gator Mattress off West University Avenue pretending to be customers. While Matos distracted the employee, Lee went into the back of the store and stole a driver's license and six credit cards. The two then went to a local Publix and CVS and bought more than $700 worth of Visa gift cards. Police caught up with them near Grandy's and took them into custody.
"It appears this is what they do, drive up and down the Interstate targeting businesses, credit cards and they try and steal and do it in that town where they're at," Sgt. Jered Weiland.
Police believe Lee may be the ring leader for other similar scams that have occurred throughout the state. Lee has a warrant out of Daytona Beach and is on probation in Miami for similar charges. He has no bond. Matos has a bond of $750,000.
