For the second time this week a man accused of three shooting deaths went before a judge facing charges of first degree murder. The county changed, but the plea remained the same.
55-year-old John Kalisz has pleaded not guilty to killing Dixie County Sheriff's Captain Chad Reed in January. He appeared before Judge James Bean at the Dixie County courthouse in Cross City.
On Tuesday a not guilty plea was also entered in Hernando County for the murders of Kalisz's sister and another woman. Just like in Hernando County, Dixie County prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty.
Mr. Kalisz has shot four people in Brooksville, killing two of them and he came here and killed one of our deputies," said Skip Jarvis, State Attorney for the Third Judicial Circuit. "This case was just absolute cruelty and meanness and it warrants the death penalty."
Three dates were announced at this Thursday morning's arraignment, but are subject to change. Motions will be heard on April 15th, pretrial proceedings are slated for April 27th, and the trial of John Kalisz in Dixie County is set for June 21st.
