After state lawmakers failed to extend unemployment benefits, Governor Charlie Crist stepped in and issued an executive order.
That's good news for Gainesville resident Steve Tameris who has been without a job since January 2009. He was laid off from his maintenance job and has hand delivered over 70 applications so far. Alachua County's current unemployment rate is 8.4% and for people like Tameris, the road to finding a job has been long.
"I've worked almost everyday of my life. Just have to sit around for a year it's gets frustrating," says Tameris.
Those who have gone without payment since June 5th will receive their checks retroactive since that date.
