The chief of police in High Springs is feuding with Alachua County Sheriff Sadie Darnell about the use of $4,000. He wants to use it to pay for drug informants, but Sheriff Darnell doesn't support the move.
Back in June, High Springs was given over $10,000 - $4,000 of which was to be used to pay for overtime. Chief Jim Troiano wants to use the money to reduce the town's drug problem, but Sheriff Darnell denied his request. Troiano says the use of drug informants is important to keeping the dealers off the streets.
"I will continue to work with the sheriff although I disagree with her on her philosophies on several things she does, she's still my sheriff, but I certainly don't appreciate micro-management from afar when she never called any of the police chiefs and asked our opinion about something she just took action on," says Troiano.
Sheriff Darnell says it is up to the city of High Springs to use department money if they want to continue with the undercover operations, but Chief Troiano says they don't have the funds to support the program.
