Chilling details have been released in the assault of a woman that ended in flames and suicide.
It started as a case of domestic abuse. The victim, Denise Miner went through hours of torture and anguish at the hands of an abusive ex-boyfriend.
The 53-year-old Summerfield resident used to live in a double wide mobile home in the 700 block of Highway 42.
According to reports, Minor told authorities that Monday afternoon she walked into her home and was attacked with a hammer by her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Glenn Lanzl. Miner said he bound her with rope, beat her for hours, and told her he was going to kill her.
When Lanzl left to buy cigarettes, Miner escaped to a neighbor's house where she called for help. Once Marion County Fire Rescue arrived she told them her ex-boyfriend was in the vicinity with a gun.
Neighbor, Tom Guilford witnessed some of the events. "The house was smoldering and I saw a gentleman come out of the house. Looked like he had a shotgun in his hand and he poked two windows out and headed back to the barn."
The house and barn were on fire. Lanzl was inside a nearby building. The Marion County Sheriff's department tried to negotiate with Lanzl before he committed suicide.
Miner told Fire Rescue she had a history of abuse at the hands of Lanzl. She had not seen him since June of 2009.
