Trent Kelly is no stranger to the north central Florida region. He attended college at the University of Florida, where he majored in Telecommunication News.

While there, he served as a reporter and anchor for several of the University’s media properties, including the local PBS affiliate WUFT-TV. 

While still in school, Trent had the opportunity to report on many of the area’s biggest stories, including the disappearance of young Haleigh Cummings, as well as the pastor who incited worldwide violence with his decision to burn the Koran.

Trent held almost every position while working in the WUFT newsroom, including crew chief, producer, director, technical director, anchor and reporter. 

Local fans of National Public Radio may recognize Trent’s voice, as he formerly served as the local anchor for NPR’s Morning Edition, a spot he held for nearly three years while still attending school.

In the summer of 2011, Trent was selected to attend the annual Hearst National Broadcast Championship in San Francisco, where he placed second after competing against some of the best student journalists in the nation.

In addition, he was awarded the Dean’s Cup for Professional Promise upon graduating from UF cum laude. 

Later on that summer, Trent had the opportunity to live in New York City, where he interned for CNBC Business News during the height of the ‘debt ceiling’ negotiations. It was there that he learned a great deal about how politics and the economy go hand-in-hand, having worked on former Reagan economist and TV pundit Larry Kudlow’s nightly business program entitled “The Kudlow Report”. 

Additionally, Trent was able to work with Kudlow and CNBC during the network’s coverage of the 2012 Republican National Convention from his hometown of Tampa. 

A self-professed ‘news junkie’, Trent enjoys keeping up with both local and national news. On his days off, you can most likely find him eating at one of his favorite barbecue restaurants, or working out at the gym.
