Mizell Minute 2-20-12
Basketball is “a big man’s game”--but let’s talk “the little guy”---Gator senior Erving Walker… A kid from the “combative streets” of Brooklyn, New York … Florida’s roster “lists” Walker at 5-foot-8… That’s a LIE… He’s closer to 5-6… Erving has spent his life competing with “far taller” rivals … In a sport known for BIG men—BIG egos— and BIG emotions--- Walker is a “Little Poker Face”… Almost never smiles—or frowns … Erving has just TWO more home games as a Gator… Walker isn’t going to be remembered at the “penthouse level” of Billy Donovan’s national championship heroes—Horford… Brewer… Noah … No. 11 has experienced some bad times … But “pluses” far outnumber “minuses” … I hope you watched on TV Saturday night as the Gators “barbecued” some Hogs— winning 98-68 AT Arkansas— Razorbacks had won 17 straight at home … Walker was never better -- “career-high 31 points … Making 75 percent of his shots--- including 5 of 6 3-pointers … plus going 8-for-8 on free throws … “The little guy” Is NOT apt to become an NBA player … But—a lot of nights— Walker has been “a big man” for the Gators . . . I’m Hubert Mizell, and that’s what I think.
