Hubert has strong thoughts on “cupcake”—so-called breathers on home schedules of college football powers…He says to avoid scheduling not-so-known names, like Louisiana-Monroe that stunned Arkansas last week…Such lesser names can now sign gifted players who were academic casualties on some glamour program. Instead, Hubert advises athletics directors and head coaches to shop for schools with major names but rather sickly football programs of late—such as Minnesota, Kansas and Duke…he says, “It’ll look better in marketing and selling your schedule and not be so likely to spring a surprise like Louisiana-Monroe."
