Billy Officially Back!
The University of Florida held a news conference Thursday to reintroduce Billy Donovan as its basketball coach. Donovan apologized to the Orlando Magic and their fans for backing out of a deal to coach the N-B-A club, saying he had to follow his heart back to Gainesville, where he led the Gators to the last two national championships.
Donovan acknowledged that he's prevented from coaching in theN-B-A but didn't specify the length of the ban. Reports are circulating that it's for five years.
Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley announced that Donovan and the Gators have agreed in principle to a new six-year contract, with an option for a seventh year. It's worth three and a-half (m)million dollars per.
Foley also says football coach Urban Meyer agreed to a new six-year deal at three-point-25 (m) million per year, with an option for a seventh.
