Gator Updates from the Diamond
The #3-ranked Florida Softball Team swept #8 LSU for the first time in the 12-year history of the Gators' Program. Backed by 3 homeruns, Florida recorded its 2nd straight shutout 7-0 over the Tigers in the series finale of the the 3-game series.
Francesca Enea (2-run homer), Ali Gardiner and Mary Ratliff combined to drive in all 7 runs in the victory. Junior Stacey Nelson scattered 3 hits, while recording 5 strikeouts over a complete game effort improving to 25-2 on the season.
Overall, Florida's record stands at 40-2, 12-1 in the SEC. The Gators host the Bulls of South Florida in a double-header starting at 4pm on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Kevin O'Sullivan's #18-ranked Baseball Gators fell short by a 6-3 count of its attempt to sweep LSU. Despite the loss, Florida leads the SEC with a 7-2 mark and is 20-6 overall after winning Game 2 of the series to clinch its third straight series to begin the SEC campaign.
The Gators take on Florida State in Jacksonville on Tuesday, before returning to McKethan Stadium for a Wednesday game against North Florida at 6:30pm.
