Gator Women's Hoops Cracks Top Ten
With the best 24-game record in the history of the program and riding a seven-game winning streak in the Southeastern Conference, also the longest run of its kind for the Gators, the University of Florida women's basketball team jumped into the top-10 of this week's Associated Press poll, released Monday afternoon. The Gators (22-2) received 759 votes to place #9 in the national ranking, the team's first appearance in the top-10 since being ranked #9 in the February 12, 2001 listing.
Meanwhile, senior Sha Brooks is the conference player of the week after leading the team to wins over Alabama and Tennessee. The senior guard scoring 29 points against both the Crimson Tide and the Lady Vols, helping the Gators (22-2, 8-1) remain tied atop the SEC standings. Brooks shot a stellar 64-percent from beyond the arc, hitting 9-of-14 during the two-game span, including a 6-of-9 performance on the road versus Alabama. Against Tennessee, she scored all 12 points during a 12-0 Florida run, helping the Gators erase a seven-point deficit with 7:06 remaining and onto a win.
