Gator Softball Heads for Conference Tournament as Top Seed
The #1 Gator softball team will be the top seed and face the eighth-seeded Auburn in the first round of the Southeastern Conference tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee on May 7th. The third game of the day is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
In a doubleheader on April 1st, the SEC regular-season champion Gators (52-3, 26-1 SEC) beat the Tigers (29-26, 9-19 SEC), 3-0 and 7-1. Senior Stacey Nelson earning both wins in the circle while three Gators hit home runs in the two games, including a grand slam by junior Francesca Enea. The Gators combined for 13 hits, seven for extra bases in those two wins.
Florida won its first-ever SEC Tournament title last season in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, beating Alabama for the championship, 4-1, when current student coach Mary Ratliff hit a grand slam in the sixth inning with the Gators trailing 1-0. With a win, the Gators will take on the winner of fourth-seeded LSU versus fifth-seeded Tennessee. UF swept both teams in three-game series during the regular season.
