Mizell Friday
Saturday night in The Swamp is “about MANY things”…Florida-South Carolina
WINNER to the SEC Championship Game…loser endures
“great emptiness”… Urban Meyer and Steve Spurrier WILL NOT say it, but
it's also “about the coaches”… for Meyer, “enormous pride” on the
line---in 10 seasons as a head coach, Urban has never lost “more” than
FOUR games--drop this one, then fall to FSU in Tallahassee---2010 becomes
Urban’s WORST record… Against the SEC East, Urban is 21 and 2---8 and 0 in
Gainesville---THAT is on the line… okay, about Stephen Orr Spurrier…
if he whips the Gators…pLUS Troy and Clemson… “Orr” finishes
9 and 3---South Carolina’s BEST record in 26 years… Spurrier had 12
HEROIC seasons as Florida coach---record 122—27—and 1…
Since then, Steve spent two years running the NFL
Redskins and this is his sixth at South Carolina---Spurrier’s
POST-Gators record---a lukewarm 53 and 51… at 66, imagine Steve’s craving
to win Saturday night… The BIGGEST PLAY in Gator football history
came in ‘06---against South Carolina… a potential game-winning
field goal---by a “great” Gamecocks kicker---Ryan Succup---8 seconds
to go…was BLOCKED by Jarvis Moss… Florida won 17-16…I’ve experienced
MANY ear-crunching decibels in the stadium Spurrier NICK-NAMED
“The Swamp”---
But NEVER AS LOUD as that ’06 moment… HOW BIG WAS IT?...WITHOUT the Moss
BLOCK, the Gators
would NOT have won the SEC---NOR a “national championship” by crushing
Ohio State… I’m Hubert Mizell, and that’s what I think.
