Gainesville High Squeaks Past Lake Gibson 10-9, Next Up State Semifinals
Senior Kicker Dallas Stubbs showed off his leg with a 52-yard field goal in the 1st half, Ryan McGriff threw for a touchdown, and the Purple Hurricanes escaped with a 10-9 victory over Lake Gibson. McGriff hooked up with Chris Thompson on a 24-yard run-and-catch with three minutes left in the 2nd quarter, putting GHS up 10-3 at the break. But the senior quarterback also threw a possible game-turning interception that set the Braves up at the 5-yard line. Lake Gibson running back Shawndell Artis scored the ensuing touchdown, but the point-after-attempt was pushed wide-left and that would be the final margin. Gainesville High now travels to Tallahassee to face Lincoln High School, with the winner earning a trip to the Class 4-A State title game in Orlando.
