Girls Basketball Challenge: Gainesville 42, #2 Dr. Phillips 75
Published January 7th, 2011
In the second game of the Rob Moramarco Girls Basketball Challenge, the No. 2 team in the state, Dr. Phillips, used a bevy of turnovers and full-court press to trip up the Lady Hurricanes, 75-42. Gainesville High had an early 12-9 lead, but once the Lady Panthers started to pressure, the Hurricanes dissipated on offense. Dr. Phillips was led by freshmen Taryn Griffey, daughter of former MLB great Ken Griffey, Jr. She had 29 points to lead all scorers.
