Before Tuesday, Billy Donovan had never won SEC Coach of the Year and no Florida Gator basketball player had ever won SEC Player of the Year. As of Tuesday, both of those items have become a footnote in Gator history. The SEC coaches voted Donovan as the coach of the year, and Gator Forward Chandler Parsons as the SEC Player of the Year.

peers,” Donovan said. “This league has outstanding coaches and a
number of deserving candidates to win the award. I’m fortunate and
blessed to have a great group of players, assistant coaches and staff
– this honor is more a reflection of their work and effort than
anything that I have done.’’

The Gators open SEC tournament play in Atlanta on Friday night, as they await the winner of Tennessee and Arkansas in first round play.
