Gator Baseball Shuts Down UM 5-3, Program's First-Ever Series Sweep of Canes in Gainesville
It wasn't going to be easy. Head Coach Kevin O'Sullivan knew as much, with top-ranked Florida coming off its first loss this season. The Gators had to rebound quickly, as another in-state rival came to town for a three-game series. When the games were over, No. 1 Florida made some history. After Sunday's 5-3 victory over No. 24 Miami (FL), it completed the Gators first-ever three-game series sweep against the 'Canes in Gainesville. Just like Saturday, the game was tied late, but Florida broke through in the bottom of the 6th inning with Preston Tucker's solo home run. The Gators took the 3-2 lead, added two more in the frame, and held off Miami in the 9th for the victory. Florida extended its home-winning streak to 24 games, and its 10-1 record matched its best start since 2003.
