Gators Basketball Season Ends with 74-71 OT Loss to Butler
The third meeting between the Butler Bulldogs and Florida Gators in the NCAA Tournament proved to be much like the first. Back in 2000, the first round meeting went to overtime, as did this one. But today the result was far different. With Florida holding a 51-40 lead with under 10 minutes to play, Butler forced a 60-60 tie, sending the game to overtime after Erving Walker's three-point shot was off the mark. In the extra session, Kenny Boynton and Walker found range from deep, but Shelvin Mack answered with a three of his own, giving Butler a 72-70 which they never relinquished. Walker had a chance for the tie, but finished the day 1-10 shooting, including 1-7 from downtown. Florida's front court dominated the Bulldogs, with Vernon Macklin and Alex Tyus scoring 25 and 14, respectively. But Butler made its second consecutive Final Four, beating the Gators 74-71 in overtime. The Bulldogs look to get back to the title game for another shot at a national championship.
