E-5 Turns into Foul Ball as PK Yonge Softball Squeaks Past Santa Fe 1-0
In a battle of old versus young, Santa Fe senior pitcher Shelby Morgan led the Raiders as best she could, going seven strong innings and represented the tying run in the top of the seventh, but freshmen Blue Wave pitcher Kalen McGill was equally impressive, throwing shutout ball as PK Yonge defeated Santa Fe in softball 1-0. The run came in the bottom of the first, when Raider catcher Kwanza Gannon overthrew the third baseman, leading to Garland Evans crossing the plate as an unearned run and the only run of the game. In the top of the seventh, Morgan reached after a single up the middle, but the next play caused a bit of controversy. Taylor Bowen laid down a sacrifice bunt and third baseman Jessica Nathan's throw was wide off first, so runners were in scoring position for the Raiders with nobody out. But the game officials talked it over, ruling the ball had hit Bowen in the batters box, ruling it a foul ball. McGill retired the next three batters in order for the victory. PK Yonge moves to 17-3 on the season.
