Gator Baseball Gets Sixth 3-Game Sweep with 9-1 Victory Over Vols
Freshmen Karsten Whitson pitched five innings of shutout ball, catcher Mike Zunino extended his 17-game hitting streak, and the No. 3 Florida Gators completed another three-game sweep over an opponent this season, taking a 9-1 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers. Zunino was the first run across the plate for the Gators in the bottom of the second, when Josh Adams drew a bases-loaded walk to bring Zunino in from third. Florida held the one-run lead into the sixth inning, where Whitson was chased after leaving runners on second and third with nobody out. Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan called on Tommy Toledo to get out of the jam, and with Zunino's help, left the Vols scoreless. The Gators broke it open shortly thereafter, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings.
