Gator Basketball Team Hires Two New Coaches, One Familiar Face
In two weeks, Billy Donovan lost all three of his assistant coaches. In one day, he announced that he has already hired two new ones. Larry Shyatt (Wyoming Head Coach), Rob Lanier (Texas Assistant Head Coach) and Richard Pitino (Louisville Associate Head Coach) all left Florida after helping Donovan guide the Gators to an Elite Eight appearance in 2011. But he brings back John Pelphrey, who was an assistant with Donovan from 1994-2002 before leaving to take head coaching jobs at South Alabama and later Arkansas. Donovan also added Norm Roberts, who was the head coach at St. John's from 2004-2010. Donovan still has one position to fill, but said he has not made a final decision on that job. Both Pelphrey and Roberts will begin recruiting for the Gators this weekend, as the recruiting period opens up.
