Florida Baseball Beats Kentucky, Takes Control of SEC Title Race
Published May 19th, 2011
Mike Zunino hit his 14th and 15th home runs of the season, and the Florida Gators beat Kentucky 9-6 Thursday night to move within a game of at least a share of the SEC regular season title. The Gators jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the 2nd inning, but Kentucky responded with a 3-run Chad Wright triple and took the lead 4-3 in the 3rd. Then Zunino took over. A solo home run in the bottom of the third, and 3-run shot in the 6th gave the Gators the final advantage. With Co-SEC leaders Vanderbilt and South Carolina both losing Thursday, if Florida wins Friday, the Gators are guaranteed at least a share of the SEC championship. If Florida sweeps Kentucky, they win the SEC championship outright.
