Gators Blank Commodores, Win SEC Tourney Title, Earn No. 2 Overall Seed In NCAA Baseball Tournament
The No. 3 Florida Gator baseball team met the No. 4 Vanderbilt Commodores once more in a showdown for the SEC Tournament title, and by earning its single-season school record of 11 shutouts, the Gators blanked Vanderbilt 5-0 for the championship. This is the first time Florida has won the SEC Tournament trophy since 1991, and sixth tournament title overall. Gators pitcher Alex Panteliodis went 5.1 scoreless innings, scattering five hits and striking out five batters. Meanwhile, Florida capitalized on two Commodore errors, which led to two unearned runs, and the Gators shut the door from there. The Gators learned this afternoon that Florida will be a No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament, hosting Miami (FL), Jacksonville, and Manhattan. The Gators played JU and UM earlier in the season, but will start against the Jaspers on Friday at 4 p.m.
