Meyer Comments on Eventual Ohio State Coaching Vacancy
Ohio State Buckeye head coach Jim Tressel resigned Monday morning, leading many to speculate that former Gator football coach Urban Meyer would be interested in the same position in Columbus, OH.
Meyer released a statement saying. "I am committed to ESPN and will not pursue any coaching opportunities this fall. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the people at ESPN this spring, and remain very excited about my role with the network this fall."
The Buckeyes will promote co-defensive coordinator Luke Fickell to the interim head coach for 2011, but will begin a formal coaching search after the football season.
Fans dissecting the words note that Meyer only refers to the 2011 season. Meyer graduated from Cincinnati and was a graduate assistant at Ohio State.
