Wuerffel Slowly Recovering From Guillain-Barre Syndrome
After being diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder last week, former Florida Gator Danny Wuerffel is feeling a little better. Wuerffel was treated for Guillain-Barre syndrome, which causes paralysis, and the Heisman Trophy winner finished the second round of treatment today. In a printed statement on his Desire Street Ministry website, Wuerffel stated "I seem to get just a little bit better each day, and feel confident that the worst is behind me... While it's quite scary to literally sense your body moving towards being paralyzed, I was diagnosed pretty quickly and started treatments right away." He also said the progress is slow, but thinks the worst is behind him. Doctors are calling for more rest, and said there is a chance Wuerffel's reflexes and coordination may not fully recover.
