North Marion Gets Best of Trinity Catholic in HS Football Season Opener
Two programs with high expectations for the season clashed Friday night in the high school season opener. North Marion, ranked the third-best team in Class 5A faced defending 2B State Champs Trinity Catholic for the first time ever on the football field. The Colts made the most of their road trip, thwarting the Celtics 23-20 to win Ocala bragging rights. Trinity Catholic opened the game with a kickoff return to take a 7-0 lead, but didn't get much else from its offense in the first half. North Marion took advantage, also getting a jolt from special teams with a fake punt resulting in a first down. The Colts then scored 23 straight points by the third quarter. The Celtics made it a respectable score, but still took a loss in football for the first time in two years.
