Gators Hang On to Snap Four-Game Skid, 26-21 Winners Over Vanderbilt
All the Gators needed was some home cooking, but the kitchen must've been bare by halftime. In a dominating second quarter at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, the Florida Gators raced out to a 17-0 halftime lead against the visiting Vanderbilt Commodores only to see it nearly slip away. The Commodores made it 20-14 in the fourth quarter after quarterback Jordan Rodgers scored on an eight-yard touchdown run. But the Gators finally saw some of those yellow flags fall in their favor. Vanderbilt jumped offsides on a key fourth-and-one at the Gator 15-yard line. On the next third down, Vanderbilt was flagged for defensive pass interference. And on third-and-one with under three minutes to play, Florida running back Jeff Demps raced 52-yards for a touchdown to extend the lead and put the game out of reach. The Gators did need to recover an onside kick to seal the victory, but Florida snapped a four-game losing streak, continuing its mastery over Vanderbilt with 21 consecutive victories.
