Former Gator, Local Businessman Harold Monk Dies
Published December 7th, 2011
Steve Spurrier called Harold Monk, who passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, an extremely hard-working player. It seems Monk was destined to stand out even in a position that isn't predestined for glory. The former Gators long snapper (1991-'93) was on the 1st ever Gators SEC championship team, and the Buchholz High School alumnus chose to pursue his business pursuits in North Central Florida as well. Monk was the owner of Gator Wine and Spirits in Gainesville, and was also involved in real estate. Family members say Monk collapsed Tuesday afternoon, and died on the way to the hospital. He was 42 years old.
