Gator Baseball Rides Solo HR, Defense to 4-1 Victory Over William & Mary
On a cold and rainy Gainesville night, the Gator baseball bats looked dormant for the majority of the evening. But when the rain picked up in the fifth inning of a tie ballgame, Tyler Thompson's swing woke up and looked right as rain. The Gator senior connected on his first home run of the season, giving the Gators a 2-1 lead, and the eventual 4-1 victory over Wiliam & Mary. Pitcher Hudson Randall picked up his first win of the season, going 6.1 innings with four strikeouts and one earned run. Randall was backed by some stellar defense from left fielder Daniel Pigott, who robbed Tadd Bower of a potential game-tying home run. Freshman Josh Tobias also made a nice play at third base to save a game-tying run in the top of the seventh, and junior Austin Maddox closed out the final 2.2 innings with four strikeouts and his second save of the season.
