Hawthorne Boys Basketball Outlasts Union County To Advance to State Championship
Published February 28th, 2012
In a boys basketball Class 1A state semifinal featuring two local teams, the Hawthorne Hornets were able to hang on in a thriller, beating Union County 56-53 in Lakeland Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers led by three points with under three minutes remaining, but the Hornets went on an 8-1 run to leave Union County down four with 9 seconds remaining. The action wasn't finished though, as Keldric Bradley drove the length of the floor to pull within two. But the Tigers missed two of three free-throws at the end of regulation and the Hornets advanced. Hawthorne now faces Chipley in the Class 1A state championship game on Wednesday.
