Newberry Girls Basketball Advances to First-Ever State Title Game, Beat Hilliard 49-45
Newberry has enjoyed a stellar season from the girls basketball team, and are now just one win away from finishing it off with a state title. After advancing to their first Final Four appearance since 1989, the Panthers beat Hilliard 49-43 and will play in the Class 1A State Finals on Wednesday morning, 10am, against Ponce de Leon. The Panthers were in a tough battle against the Flashes, withstanding a 13-0 run and a 28-22 deficit, but answered with runs of their own. Late in the 4th quarter with the game tied at 41-41, the Panthers finished it off from the foul line, going 8-for-8, ending Hilliard's season. Newberry's Lasharrah Nattiel led all scorers with 19 points, while teammate Tayle McGee added 18, all but two of those coming in the second half.
