Defense Leads Way for Gator Softball Sweep Over FIU
Published April 22nd, 2012
The Florida Gators enjoyed their break from conference play, sweeping in-state rival FIU 7-1 in the final game of the series. The Gator offense didn't show up till late in the contest, but Hannah Rogers pitched seven solid innings, only allowing one run on seven strikeouts and got plenty of help from her teammates. Kelsey Horton gunned down a baserunner in the top of the fourth inning, and Cheyenne Coyle turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the Panther threat in the fifth. Coyle also drove in the first run of the game with an RBI double to left, scoring Sami Fagan. Florida would tack on six more in a six-run sixth inning to pull away from Florida International.
