Belleview Earns Runner-Up Finish in 5A Softball State Championship
Belleview's remarkable run in the softball state playoffs has finally come to an end, as the Rattlers were shut down in the 5A Softball State Championship losing to American Heritage 4-0. It was the first time this postseason an opponent held Belleview scoreless. The Rattlers had knocked off the No. 1, 2, 3, and 9th ranked teams in the state to make it to the title game, but couldn't get anything going against the Patriots. Belleview started out strong, with Brooke Hale striking out two batters in the top of the first. Hale got in some trouble later in the inning with runners on second and third, but shortstop Ariel Oglesby made a nice grab to snag a soft liner and end the threat. Mother nature suspended play shortly into the bottom of the first inning. Lightning was seen in the area, and by the time the Rattlers resumed play over an hour later, the positive momentum was gone. This was the closest the school had come to a possible state championship.
