Zunino Lifts Gator Baseball to 2-1 Win Over Mississippi State
The fifth-ranked Florida baseball team needed a spark on offense and got one from a guy who's done it before. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Mike Zunino blasted his 13th home run of the season in a 1-1 tie ballgame against Mississippi State, and the 2-1 score proved to be the final. The Gators moved to 4-3 in series-deciding games in conference play. Florida pitching was spectacular, with six on the mound combining for a three-hit, 10 strikeout performance in the victory. The win kept pace in the SEC standings with Florida remaining two games behind Kentucky. The Gators picked up a game on LSU, now only one game back of the Tigers, and a half-game on South Carolina, who was idle after a rain out against Georgia. Florida owns tiebreakers against South Carolina and Kentucky, respectively. The final weekend of SEC play will decide a regular season champion.
