Down to the Wire, Gators Baseball Loses Heartbreaker To End Season
The Florida Gator baseball team battled until the last out, but fell two runs short of of extending their season, losing 5-4 to Kent State Monday night in the College World Series. The Gators end their season with a record of 47-20, but the team's 4th straight 40-win season was met with a disappointing denoumont-one that saw Florida unable to produce a run with bases loaded and just one out in the top of the ninth inning. Casey Turgeon worked the count to 3-0, but then watched three straight pitches called for strikes, including the strikeout pitch that Turgeon could not hold a check-swing back in time. On the final out, Justin Shafer hit a pop fly to right to end the game, and the Gators became just the second team since 1999 to come into the College World Series as the number one seed, and leave without winning a game.
