Gator Swimmers Prepare for Olympic Trials
The pool at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Natatorium continues to stay busy as several current and former Florida Gator swimmers are preparing for the Olympic trials, which will be held all next week in Nebraska. Former Gator Ryan Lochte is one of the top medal contenders for the upcoming event, and his showdown against Michael Phelps may be the most anticipated battles of the week. Phelps currently holds the world record in the 400 meter and the 100 and 200 meter butterfly, while Lochte holds the world record in the 200 IM. The two will face off in six of seven events over the course of the eight day meet, which begins Monday June 25. Lochte has been training in North Central Florida alongside some fellow Gators and Gators swimming head coach Gregg Troy, who is also the USA Olympic team head coach. Troy says the team has been working hard and some Gators will have a shot to get to the finals.
