Former Gator swimmer Gemma Spofforth was so close, yet so far the last time she competed in the Olympics. In the 2008 Beijing Games, Spofforth made the womens' 100-meter backstroke finals only to finish outside medal contention by four-hundredths of a second. Four years later, she's making the trip back to the Summer Games with extra motivation, representing her host country of Great Britain in London. She will race with the full support of her country and the guiding strength from her late mother, who died of stomach cancer in 2007.
